Jubilee Celebrations

A toast to her majesty!

With so many celebrations being organised around the local area, we decided to keep it simple, with a cream tea open to anyone from the community. The ticket price included Prosecco to toast the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee, with a non alcoholic version for the drivers!

We also had a DVD playing in the Newman Room which showed the coronation, and rang our newly re-furbished school bell for everyone to hear.

Luckily the weather was kind to us so we were able to stay outside for the party, with several people enjoying the Community Garden as well.

Many thanks to Jon Lean for the above photo, taken by his drone.

That Rings a Bell!

Happy memories were enjoyed at the Manor Hall on Sunday 12th September, 2021.

The old school bell and its tower had fallen into disrepair so, helped by a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor, the trustees had both of them renovated and restored to full working order. Matthew Higby & Co from Radstock renovated the bell and its fittings, while Andy Ross of AR Property Maintenance cleaned and repaired the tower.

To celebrate the restoration the current trustees invited a group of people to share a drop of bubbly while the bell was officially rung again, followed by a cream tea. This group included some ex-pupils of the school plus past trustees and volunteers, representatives from the Parish Council, and other supporters of the Hall, several of whom took the chance to ring the bell for themselves.

Luckily the weather held fair for us so the teas were enjoyed outside! It was a great opportunity for everyone to catch up with old friends and, particularly for the ex-pupils, a real dose of nostalgia. The bell will be rung again on special occasions such as the Queen’s jubilee next year.
